The horses at A Broken Spur Riding Academy are undeniably loving and have such amazing charasmatic personalities. Each horse has their unique personality and way of giving to their students, they each have a mindful skill set, movement and/or body shape that clients need in order to learn, grow and heal. From improving core strength to coping skills, our horses are incredible, inspiring partners and teachers. We are very blessed to have such an amazing herd.

Here at A Broken Spur Riding Academy we believe horses have the healing capabilities everyone looks for, but have a hard time finding in everyday life. We provide immaculate care, love, patience and understanding to our equine partners, and friends, because without our horses these equine assisted activities and therapies are not possible.

Our horses are managed very carefully under the supervision of our Barn Manager and our veterinarian. Each horse is hand-fed a specific feed regimen each day to ensure they are getting exactly what they need. Sponsoring horses is a great way to support our program! Each horse seeks a sponsor every year to help pay for his/her vaccinations, de-wormer, hoof care and specialized medications. Many of our horses are on their second or third career; they are donated to us because they cannot perform in their previous career anymore. We have a few horses with arthritis, which requires supplements to keep them comfortable. Others have HYPP, Partial blindness, Navicular disease, old injuries carefully managed(etc.) A one year sponsorship is $1350/year - we offer monthly, quarterly, biannual or annual payments. As a sponsor you will be recognized on our website, our social media, and most definately, in our barn.  Click here to sponsor a horse today!

Horses change lives. They give our young people confidence and self-esteem. They provide peace and tranquility to troubled souls, they give us hope.

Reno a.k.a Nevada Handyman

Reno is a 26 year old Appaloosa who belongs to the Founder/Executive Director of A Broken Spur Riding Academy; Sarah Dorsey. Sarah enjoys letting Reno work in the Equine assisted activities and therapies. Reno has a passion for working with children and those with disabilities. He loves scratches on his belly for sure and he absolutely loves being brushed. Reno is a ‘Been there, done that” horse and will amaze you with his knowledge but Reno is semi-retired so he only works occasionally as he has a bit of a sway back we monitor carefully. When Reno is not cheering up everyone he likes to take his mom on trail rides and Reno has always been a big advocate for treats. His favorites are apples, carrots and peppermints.

Mazy better known as Lazy Mazy is very playful has a wonderful fun loving personality shes 20 and acts like she's 10. She loves being brushed, she loves treats and she just enjoys taking trails and giving lessons to some of our children. She loves carrots and peppermints for sure.

Stormy

Stormy is a 4 year old Quarter hors …. 🙂🙂Stormy also belongs to our instructor Madison Greene. Stormy is still in profound training for our equine assisted activities and therapies so he's not ridden by many of our students maybe more highly advanced students. Stormy is smart, very intelligent. Stormy does love children and loves being loved on and being around people. Stormy loves to be ridden but only more advanced students and of course the instructors. Stormy loves belly scratches, he loves attention and kind soft words of affirmation in our unmounted activities. He definitely like everyone else loves treats.

Envy

Envy is a calm, sweet loving girl who loves apples! She enjoys taking naps and sunbathing in the field and adores treats and kisses. She loves being taken out on trail rides to break up the monotony of being worked in the arena. She is very sensitive, She has big movement and a big heart and LOVES to just be in the moment. While she is considered still young, Envy does have an old fracture injury of the left leg and navicular disease. Envy will be active in our riding and mental health programs this year.
